Welcome to the Regional Face-to-Face-Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda! 

This Regional F2F-Meeting brings together SDC colleagues working in Health International Cooperation
It further provides the opportunity to deepen the strategic orientation of the Swiss Health International Cooperation, fosters an exchange on challenges and opportunities in the field, and expands and diversifies the personal professional network of attendees.

Day 1: Health Determinants & Cr​oss-Sectorial Interventions 

ObjectiveFurther underline and understand the importance of health determinants as well as cross-sectorial interventions with a special focus on sectors that influence health outcomes such as climate change, nutrition, water, education or social inclusion. 

The understanding and importance of health determinants and cross-sectorial approaches were further elaborated with interesting inputs from an external guest from the WHO and colleagues working on WASH for health in Mozambique as well as colleagues presenting the integrated approach applied in Democratic Republic of the Congo between development, humanitarian and peace and human rights instruments of SDC.

Day​​ 2: Field Visits - The Rwandan Journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC)

Objective Learn more about the Rwandan Journey towards UHC and put it into local context. 

The participants of the Health-F2F fist visited the “Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB)" and then two different health facilities being part of the community based health insurance coverage of the RSSB.

Day 3: Peer Exch​ange & Mutual Learning - Universal Health Coverage (UHC) & Health Financing 

ObjectiveBroaden mutual understanding on Universal Health coverage, how it relates to Health Financing and how it is implemented on the bilateral level (programmes supported and policy influencing).

Fresh with the impressions from the field visit and the learnings from Rwanda’s own journey towards universal health coverage, Health Financing was discussed as a core function of health systems that can enable progress towards UHC. In particular, how to pursue the ambitious objective of improving effective service coverage and providing financial protection within a context of limited resources​.

Day 4: ​Peer Exchange & Mutual Learning - Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)  


​Objective - Broaden understanding on what the Swiss positioning in Health Financing and SRHR is/should be on the bilateral level (programmes supported and policy influencing). 

SRHR remains a politicized topic in many countries around the world. Reduced civic space and growing political backlashes against SRHR may knockout decades of investment in family planning, safe abortion, and girls' empowerment in the Africa Region.
Health Financing is a core function of health systems that can enable progress towards UHC by improving effective service coverage and financial protection.  ​
