In this context, accompanied by celebrities and politicians, the SDC and the Swiss Red Cross presented the opportunities that malaria eradication offers for equal opportunities on 24 April 2018 in Berne. The national campaign culminated in an anniversary event co-organized by the Swiss Malaria Group and the Roll Back Malaria Partnership on 25 April  2018 in Geneva. There, together with other high-level panelists, SDC Vice-Director Thomas Gass illustrated the opportunities that malaria eradication offers for sustainable development, such as higher economic growth or increased school attendance.

As a world champion of innovation, with renowned research organizations, a strong medical industry as well as the headquarters of numerous international organizations and NGOs, Switzerland has particular expertise to offer in the fight against malaria. "It is therefore important that we exploit this potential together and make the resulting solutions accessible to all," said Ambassador Thomas Gass.
