Inclusive Green Economy
The wide-ranging challenges linked to the existing economic models carry far-reaching consequences for the future of our planet. They underscore the pressing need to transform the economy and put a halt to climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, pollution, disaster displacement and social inequality. The SDC is strongly committed to address climate change and its effects (International Cooperation Strategy 2025-2028). One important way to accomplish this goal, is by supporting countries with their transition toward an Inclusive Green Economy. Because the term Inclusive Green Economy lacks a clear definition and many practitioners are grappling with questions on how to design or manage projects on such an ample topic, the E+E section has initiated a consultation and research to help answer questions such as : What exactly do we mean by an Inclusive Green Economy and what do we understand by related terms such as Green Skills, Circular Economy, Green Finance, Just Transition? What are important trends and what can we learn from other experts, donor and implementing organisations? How do SDC projects already contribute to an Inclusive Green Economy and how can economic projects have a greater impact in the future? And what specific challenges and opportunities must be considered for projects in LDCs and emerging markets? ConsultationSeveral colleagues within the network have already contributed valuable insights during the first stages of the consultation process, which has led to the development of a draft orientation paper. As we progress, we aim to delve deeper into specific aspects of Inclusive Green Economy and develop practical guidance materials that can be used on a day-to-day basis by the SDC staff, partners and implementing organisations. To achieve this, the SDC will be organizing a series of peer exchanges on specific topics with small groups of interested practitioners.
SDC Consultation Process on Inclusive Green Economy Watch this space During the consultation process we will continue to update this space and share the various inputs with you that will be used for the exchanges planned. February 22nd 2024: The summary results of the IGE Survey are now available. A big thank you to everyone who participated in the survey: we are using your answers to help design the next steps of the consultation process.

The annual conference will bring together stakeholders who can shed light on a joint approach (employers/training providers) which would mitigate the gap between the provision of skills and the skills needs in the labour market. Work-based learning can provide an excellent platform for a VET agenda of future skills for green transitions. But, there are certainly other means to attract employers to training provision and vice versa to design a better future for tomorrow’s workforce and our quality of life.
