The learning lesson is organized by the focal Point employment + income (e+i) and the Division for Institutional Partnerships (IP).
- The UN General Assembly declared 2017 as the «International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development».
- Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors with over-average growth.
- Tourism is a labor-intensive sector: Around 280 million jobs worldwide are directly or indirectly related to tourism.
- The Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development calls for a transformation of tourism (target no. 8.9).
- The SDC supports several tourism related projects.
- As part of its awareness raising activities the SDC/IP also funds AKTE, the competence center for fair and sustainable tourism (Arbeitskreis Tourismus & Entwicklung / www.fairunterwegs.ch).
- Exchange experience and raise awareness for the potential and risks of creating jobs and income for disadvantaged population groups through tourism
- Discuss opportunities and lessons learned concerning tourism in international development cooperation
- Take into account Swiss expertise regarding sustainable tourism in SDC’s programs and projects
