Flight, accommodation (including breakfast), transport to and from Thun, and dinner are to be paid directly by the participants.

How to get there from Zurich or Geneva Airport

Follow the directions to get to the train station at the airport. Buy your ticket at the desk or automatic teller machine and indicate “Thun Zentrum”. Train tickets (one-way, full tariff, 2nd class) from Zurich or Geneva Airport to Thun will cost CHF 62.

To see all the intermediate stops, click on show all details. Check the platform number and train change to be undertaken. There are direct trains from Zurich and Geneva airport to Bern. In Bern, you have to change and take the train to Thun. The journey will take around 1:40h (from Zurich Airport) or 2:15h (from Geneva Airport) respectively.

Once you arrive in Thun, follow the “city” sign. In front of the railway station, cross the street, walk straight ahead on “Aarefeldstrasse” until you reach the river. Cross  the river taking the old wooden bridge, continue left as indicated on the map. It is a 5 minutes walk from the railway station.

How to get to the SDC Head Office from Bern railway station:

Tram: No. 7 to Bümpliz, or No. 8 to Brünnen; get off the tram at “Ausserholligen” station.

S-Bahn (train): S2 direction Laupen, or S6 direction Schwarzenburg, or S3 direction Belp-Thun; get off the train at “Ausserholligen” station

Tickets for both tram and S-Bahn need to be purchased in advance at ticket machines that are available at all stations. One-way tickets are CHF 4.20.

Train tickets (one-way, full tariff, 2nd class) from Thun to Bern cost CHF 15.60.

Both cities are great for shopping and sight-seeing, and are best explored for walking!

Shops opening hours
In general shops open between 7 and 9 am and are open the whole day until 6.30 pm. On Saturdays, shops close earlier. On Sundays shops are closed.

Bank opening hours
Different banks are available through the city. Opening times are different from one to another. At some railway stations you will also be able to change money.

We recommend carrying Swiss francs with you. Some places might accept Euro (bills only), with change paid out in Swiss francs.

Languages spoken in Thun
Thun is located in the German speaking part of Switzerland, but many people also speak French or English.

Central European continental climate. May is spring time in Switzerland, the average temperature is between 10°C and 20°C.

Time zone
Middle European time (GMT + 1 hour), daylight saving time (+ 1 hour) from end of March to end of October.

Electricity
230 volt, 50 hertz. You may need an adapter to connect international devices to Swiss power sockets. Adapters can be bought at most airports and train stations.​
