Video messages

Please watch this video to get a quick overview of key messages from the podium speakers. While Peter Davis (DCED) and Roger Oakley (M4P Hub) provide us with a short overview of the concept of private sector development in fragile contexts, Rana Sandouka (SDC) addresses the implications when applying these concepts in the field.

In the afternoon, different real-life projects intervening in private sector development in fragile contexts were presented:

Siroco Messerli (Helvetas) talked about experience from SDC/Helvetas projects in Nepal and the particular challenges one faces when working in a fragile post-conflict context.

Gabriele Siegenthaler (SDC Focal Point for the Cash Community of Practice) presented the concept of cash-based humanitarian interventions as a PSD-friendly alternative to the direct distribution of goods and services through humanitarian agencies in disaster and conflict areas.

Ken Davies from the World Food Programme (WPF) presented the Purchase for Progress Programme (P4P) that aims at facilitating the access to larger and higher quality markets for small farmers.

In the end Roger Denzer (Head of the Latin America Division at SDC) concluded the day with a short wrap up, summarizing the most important impressions, learnings and insights of the seminar.
