Day 2 Interview

Day 2 Interview

Today I spoke with Riguen Thorn and Makararavy Ty, both Monitoring Officers for CAVAC (Cambodia Agricultural Value Chain Programme). CAVAC's goal is to accelerate growth in the value of agricultural production and smallholder incomes in selected provinces through improved productivity of rice-based farming systems.

What do you think of the seminar so far?

We joined this type of seminar for the first time and we are really learning a lot from others how they are measuring results. It is also interesting to see that some do not agree with the DCED, why that is, and how the DCED responds.

Do you use the DCED standard in your project?

Yes, CAVAC applies the standard to a great extent. At the moment, we have developed results chains for 19 of our 31 interventions and will develop the remaining results chains this year. We do not however use the DCED's universal indicators. We measure yield, quality and area under production and we make to the link to poverty reduction through a previous research we have carried out. We plan to have a mock audit against the DCED standard later in May.

What particular challenges do you face in measuring results?

A challenge for us is working with the external environment and get the data we need from them (for example the private sector). After the mid-term review in March this year, we expect to include new interventions, and it might be a challenge to integrate it in the M&E system.
