Country Information

Country Information

For the integration of climate change related risks into strategic planning and project cycle management, background information at the national or, where available, local level is required. The following links to web portals hosted by the World Bank, UNDP, ALM and CIF provide country profiles for most SDC focus countries. The country profiles provide information on climate impacts and vulnerabilities, future climate scenarios, adaptation options for key sectors, ongoing projects and initiatives on adaptation and DRR.

Web Portals

Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM) – Country Profiles

The Adaptation Learning Mechanism (ALM) represents a collaborative, global learning process and seeks to provide stakeholders with a common platform for sharing information, experiences, and expertise. The ALM country profiles provide national information on how individual countries are addressing climate change adaptation, including National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs), National communication (NC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as well as projects and initiatives.

Climate Investment Funds (CIF) – Country Profiles

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) are disbursed through the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to financially support developing countries in their efforts aimed at climate mitigation or strengthened resilience to climate change impacts. They are comprised of the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) promoting investments to initiate a shift towards clean technologies and the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF), which serves as an overarching fund to support targeted programs with dedicated funding to pilot new approaches. The country profiles provide information about each country participating in the CIF, their investment plans and projects.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Climate Change Country Profiles

These country-level climate data summaries are intended to address the climate change information gap for developing countries by making use of existing climate data to generate a series of country-level studies of climate observations and the multi-model projections made available through the WCRP CMIP3. For each country profile, a report contains a set of maps and diagrams demonstrating the observed and projected climates of that country as country average time series as well as maps depicting changes on a 2.5° grid and summary tables of the data. A narrative summarises the data in the figures, and placing it in the context of the country's general climate.

World Bank – Climate Risk and Adaptation Country Profile

The climate risk and adaptation country profiles offer a common platform to guide access, synthesis, and analysis of relevant country data and information for Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation to Climate Change. The profiles are geared towards providing a quick reference source for development practitioners to better integrate climate resilience in development planning and operations. Users are able to evaluate climate-related vulnerability and risks by interpreting climate and climate-related data at multiple levels of detail. Sources on climate and climate related information are linked through the country profiles’ on-line platform, which is periodically updated to reflect the most recent publicly available climate analysis.
