Development Initiatives (2016), The P20: methods for tracking the status of people in the poorest 20%. Background Paper.

The P20 Initiative, developed by Development Initiatives (DI), is an effort to better understand the data on people who are at risk of being left behind so that action can be taken and policies and resources can be better targeted. The P20 approach focuses on a small number of indicators linked to the SDGs to assess whether the people in the poorest 20% of the population (the P20) are being included in progress. To leave no one behind, the progress of the P20 needs to be fast enough to narrow the gap between them and everyone else. The approach highlights the importance of disaggregation by wealth quintile, gender, geography, age and disability to track the inclusion of different groups.

Development Initiatives (2020), The P20 in Benin: From consultation to consensus. Report.

The P20 approach has been concretely applied in Benin. The report presents current trends among the poorest 20% in Benin and provides recommendations. It is a joint product of DI, the governments of Benin and Switzerland, and Maison de la Société Civile.

Development Initiatives (2018), How the P20 are doing in your country. Factsheet.

Are you interested in how the P20 are doing in your country? DI provides analysis of available data on the poorest 20% in comparison to the rest of the population in every country of the world (where data exists).
