Linking Poverty Reduction and Climate Change

Natural disasters are a greater obstacle to ending global poverty than previously understood. This is the warning message of the latest report published under the World Bank Climate Change and Development Series. While traditional approaches reduce natural disasters to their monetary impact and represent only those wealthy enou​​​gh to have something to lose, this report proposes a new measure for assessing disaster-related damages and suggests a “resilience policy” package in order to reduce ‘poor’ people’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
