Brown bag lunch on "Resilient cities: what can we do in practice?"

The Thematic Network DRR and the working group from the Learning Journey on urban-rural linkages invite you to a BBL on resilience in urban areas: from concepts to practice

with inputs from

Michael Szönyi (Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance),

Sarah Sabry (Save the Children) and

Reto Bühler/ Christian Willi (EBP)

and followed by a discussion.

Cities are growing at an unprecedented speed: The UN estimates that already about 55% of the world's population lives in areas that are defined as urban, and that by 2050 there will be 2.5 billion more urban people, increasing the urban share to 68%. The growth of cities exposes its inhabitants to everyday hazards and puts them in high danger for loss of life and assets, livelihoods and infrastructure. Poor people are usually disproportionally affected.
