2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The world faces today important challenges which must be addressed at the global level, including climate change, persisting poverty and growing inequalities, unsustainable growth patterns, environmental degradation and health risks. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the most important framework to guide national and international efforts to eradicate poverty and ensure a sustainable development for the current and future generations.

Sustainable Development / Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) combine social and economic development with ecological sustainability. They also address issues such as peace and inclusive societies, the rule of law and good governance, all of which are essential to sustainable development. Contrary to the Millennium Development Goals, the SDGs will be universally applicable. This means that all the countries in the world should contribute to achieving the goals according to their capacities. Switzerland is also called on to implement the goals both at national level and through its international cooperation. Furthermore, incentives need to be created to encourage the private sector to make a greater contribution to sustainable development.
