Migration Dialogue Nigeria

First National Migration Dialogue took place in Nigeria in December 2014

Serge Oumow, Regional Advisor on M&D, SDC Cotonou

On 18 December 2014, Nigeria organized its first National Migration Dialogue, an event which will be conducted once a year. It was organized by NCFRMI (Nigerian Commission for Refugees Migration and IDPs) with SDC support in the context of the Swiss-Nigeria Migration partnership. The event was highly attended with participation from representatives of 36 federal States. This dialogue is expected to enable key stakeholders in the field of migration and development from across the country - governmental, civil society and international organizations - to meet, evaluate and monitor activities according to the implementation of the national migration policy. Additionally, it will provide the opportunity to link it to regional processes – MIDWA (Migration Dialogue for West Africa) - and global fora such as the GFMD and UNHLD.
