Switzerland is stepping up its efforts in working with the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in Qatar on cooperation in the field of migration, development and human rights. In the context of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two organizations, SDC was invited by NHRC to contribute to the 15th edition of the Doha Forum on 11-13 May 2015. This Forum brings together leaders from public and private sectors to discuss current political, economic and social priorities.
Mr. Pascal Raess from SDC’s Global Programme on Migration and Development, based in the Swiss Cooperation office in Amman, Jordan, intervened in the Human Rights Session as a panellist on the topic “Public private development partnerships: an option for addressing labor migration challenges?” This constituted the first concrete opportunity to implement the MoU and to lay the basis for a constructive and rights based approach in the region for the years to come. The session highlighted opportunities and challenges for the private and public sectors to work together, and provided a platform for participants to exchange on these issues.
