In the framework of cooperation under an MoU between the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) of Qatar and the Global Program Migration and Development (GPMD), based on common goals in raising awareness of human rights, the NHRC organized a training course in partnership with the Diplomatic Institute of Qatar on "The optimal framework for dealing with international mechanisms for the protection of the rights of workers" . GPMD mobilized an international specialist for two sessions of the training. The overall objective was to promote and strengthen the human rights dimension in labour inspectors' work. Thirty labour inspectors were trained over three days on a variety of topics such as legal aspects regulating entry and exit of expatriates, mechanisms protecting the rights of workers, standards of housing, safety and health, and international labour standards and experience in their implementation. The overall interaction was deemed as very satisfactory and the training fully met the expectations of participants. Further events might be developed jointly by NHRC and GPMD based on this successful training under the MoU.
