 Safe Labour Migration

In today’s globalized economy, migrants increasingly move both internally and beyond their home country in search of decent work and better livelihoods. Migrants, including migrant workers, play an instrumental role in contributing to the economic, social and cultural development of countries of destination, transit and origin by filling gaps in the labour market, bringing new skills, ideas and innovation as well as sending remittances to their family who left behind. In this sense, migration can be seen as a tremendous engine for socio-economic growth and a strategy for poverty reduction. On the other hand, migration entails significant human costs, with thousands of migrants risking their lives on dangerous migration routes and finding themselves in exploitative employment situations.
