   International Policy Engagement

Over the past years, the international community accelerated efforts to take collective action on migration, and a number of migration-related global frameworks and processes were developed, starting with the Global Forum on Migration and Development in 2007. With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in 2015, migration was for the first time acknowledged as a transformative force for sustainable development and is treated as a cross-cutting issue of relevance to the achievement of all SDGs. The importance of international cooperation on migration was further acknowledged through the first-ever intergovernmentally negotiated agreement on migration in 2018, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The Global Compact on Refugees affirmed in 2018 on the other hand intents to more effectively support host communities and enhance refugee self-reliance in forced displacement contexts. A series of regional processes also shape the policy discourse related to migration and forced displacement.

This page will provide insights into policy engagements to strengthen the global migration governance.
