Turnhalle, Bern

Education at the core of sustainable development

The Swiss launch of the GEM Report 2016, organised by the SDC in collaboration with RECI, the Swiss UNESCO Commission and FoBBIZ, brought together about 60 participants on September 29th in Bern. After a presentation of the report by its Director, Mr Aaron Benavot, the recommendations were discussed by a panel composed of Ms Koumba Boly-Barry (Special rapporteur on the right to education), Ms Elaine Geyer-Allély (WWF International), Mr Jürg Schertenleib (éducation21) and Mr Morten Sigsgaard (IIEP-UNESCO).

The debate focused on the transversal and transformative role of education in the new sustainable development agenda and allowed to identify ways forward to ensure the implementation of the recommendations.

We encourage you to take a look at the key takeaways that the Education Team identified from these discussions.

Finally, we are pleased to share with you the short interviews that we made with the panellists.
