ADB - Asian Development Bank

ADB is a multilateral development finance institution dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific. Established in 1966, the Asian Development Bank is now owned by 64 members, mostly from the region. The headquarters are in Manila, 26 other offices are around the world.

BIBB - Deutsches Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung

The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), founded in 1970, is a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence for research into and development of initial and continuing vocational education and training. The aims of its research, development and counselling work are to identify future tasks of vocational education and training, to promote innovation in national and international vocational education and training and to develop new, practice-oriented proposals for solving problems in initial and continuing vocational education and training.
BIBB has also built a portal, called Communication and Information System of Vocational Education and Training: KIBB - Kommunikations- und Informationssystem Berufliche Bildung. It is in German, and mainly referring to Germany. With a map of knowledge in the field of Vocational Education and Training there is a thematically categorized access to the portal which also serves as an exchange forum for experts in this field.

DDD - Digital Divide Data

This organisation is dedicated to provide disadvantaged youth in Laos and Cambodia with the education and training to deliver world-class, competitively priced IT services to global clients and acquire essential business skills. Youths are recruited and trained for 3-8 months in-house (English and IT). Afterwards they work half a day at DDD while they are spending the other half day at school. After earning their degrees they are internally being promoted or outplaced.

DFID - Department for International Development (UK)

The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. DFID implements development programmes and projects throughout the world. Through its search engine numerous projects and resources on Vocational Education and Training, skills development, and learning opportunities, etc. can be found.
id21 - communicating development research - is a fast-track research reporting service funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). It aims to bring a selection of the latest and best UK-based development research findings and policy recommendations to policymakers and development practitioners worldwide. id21 aims to be part of the process of putting policy into practice. Online, in print and through the southern media, id21 showcases recent research findings and policy lessons on major development issues. id21 is hosted by the Institute of Development Studies, at the University of Sussex, UK.

Education Reform Initiative of South Eastern Europe (ERI SEE)

ERI SEE was launched in 2002 in the framework of the Enhanced Graz Process Task Force Education and Youth (TFEY) that supports sustainable education reform in SEE countries. ERI SEEs main objective is to support the integration process of SEE into the wider European Area of Education by promoting an exchange of experience between EU and SEE at political and expert level. In the process of adaptation to and harmonization with European standards in education ERI SEE enables the SEE countries to speak with one voice and it supports the dissemination of knowledge and networking. The future goal of ERI SEE is to help the SEE countries achieve bologna standards until 2010.

GIZ - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit

The GIZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, established in 1975, and organised as a private company owned by the German Federal Government. GIZ has two registered offices in Germany, one in Bonn and one in Eschborn, near Frankfurt am Main. The company also operates from about 90 offices around the globe, some of which we share with other German development organisations.

iMOVE

It promotes international collaboration and the initiation of cooperation and business relationships in vocational training and continuing education. iMOVE is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

International Network on Innovative Apprenticeship (INAP)

INAP is an association of researchers and research institutions in vocational education and training. Since its foundation, INAP conferences are regularly held.

Telecentre.org

telecentre.org is a global community of people and organizations committed to increasing the social and economic impact of grassroots telecentres. It provides telecentre managers with ongoing training, capacity building, and professional development opportunities. telecentre.org is funded by SDC, Microsoft and others.

UNESCO - United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization

UNESCO was founded on 16 November 1945. For this specialized United Nations agency, it is not enough to build classrooms in devastated countries or to publish scientific breakthroughs. Education, Social and Natural Science are the means to a far more ambitious goal : to build peace in the minds of men. UNESDOC / UNESBIB - electronic documentation and publication system is a database that contains full text UNESCO texts, a bibliography of UNESCO documents, publications and the UNESCO library collection (about 100'000 records).

World Bank

The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. The World Bank is not a bank in the common sense. It is made up of two development institutions owned by 184 member countries—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). Each institution plays a different but supportive role in the World Bank's mission of global poverty reduction and the improvement of living standards. The IBRD focuses on middle income and creditworthy poor countries, while IDA focuses on the poorest countries in the world. Together the World Bank provides low-interest loans, interest-free credit and grants to developing countries for education, health, infrastructure, communications and many other purposes.

Archiv3 Kooperation Dritte Welt Archive

The database Archiv3 co-operation third world archives in Germany includes 11 archives and documentation centres. Third world topics and development cooperation topics are covered in these archives. The database covers a great deal of articles and materials concerning development cooperation. With an extended search option you'll be able to narrow your search criteria.

Cedefop - European Center for the Development of Vocational Training

The European agency that helps policymakers and practitioners of the European Commission, the Member States and social partner organisations across Europe make informed choices about vocational training policy. Cedefop can provide you with the latest information on the present state of and future trends in vocational education and training in the European Union.
Within the website of Cedefop there are direct links to: the Europass - a guideline to skills and qualifications, as well as mobility within Europe, ReferNet - the European Network of Reference and Expertise in the field of VET; and skillsnet - the early identification of skills needed. Skillsnet aims to improve transparency on the European Labour markets, to boost population's skills level, and to avoid a gap between supply and demand (context: European Qualifications Framework and ECVET - European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training). A most important service of cedefop is its library, documentation and archives service (VET-bib) that provides you with an actual and extensive overview of the European literature on VET.

Céreq - the French Centre for Research on Education, Training and Employment

Céreq is a public body under the aegis of the Ministry for Youth, Education and Research and the Ministry for Social Affairs, Works and Solidarity. As a public centre of expertise at the service of the key players in training and employment, Céreq is involved both at once in the production of statistics, research and the accompaniment of actions. It provides advice and proposals intended to clarify choices in the area of training policy at regional, national or international level.

DACUM and SCID

Website by the Ohio State University, the 'inventors' of DACUM (Develop a curriculum) and SCID (Systematic Curriculum and Instructional Development), two most relevant working tools for VET and curriculum experts. It includes an explanation of the DACUM process, a list of DACUM charts (although the charts themselves are not available online), and explanations to the SCID model which is complementary to DACUM. Learning Guide and Learning Sample from SCID are available online.

EADI - European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes

EADI - European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes - is an independent and non-profit making international non-governmental organisation. It is an active network of 170 organisations with 14 working groups addressing key issues in Development Research, Training and Information. The network is managed from a small central secretariat in Bonn, Germany.

edvance promotes transparency between the stakeholders involved in the field of vocational education and training via vehicles such as effective information and knowledge management.

EU - Education and Training

This Portal of the EU contains all relevant policies and processes referring to Education and Training, such as the Maastricht Conference, the Lisbon Strategy, the Bologna and Copenhagen Process, strategies for Lifelong Learning, etc. Many Links to European Networks can be directly accessed through this portal as well.
The sub-link to the European Qualifications Framework informs about one key priority of the European Commission aiming at establishing one of the principal European mechanisms to facilitate European citizen's mobility for work and study.

EENEE - European Expert Network on Economics of Education

This website is a forum to promote and disseminate research on the Economics of Education in Europe. It is provided by the European Expert Network on Economics of Education (EENEE), an EU Think Tank sponsored by the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission.

EPDC - Data base

The Education Policy and Data Centre (EPDC) offers you a data base of education and related statistics for developing and transitioning countries. The data base contains a big amount of reliable data, including:

  • sub-national data for 82 countries;
  • household survey data for 89 countries;
  • administrative sources for 46 countries;
  • national data up to 2005 for 209 countries


This data base is very valuable. It provides analytic tools that can also be used in an interactive way to extract the data you need in an appropriate form (graphs, country profiles, education projection tools, etc.). On the EPDC website you can also find a bunch of policy reports based on the data base.

ETF - European Training Foundation

The European Training Foundation is one of the agency European Union's agencies. Its mission is to contribute to the vocational education and training reform in Central and Eastern Europe, in the New Independent States and Mongolia, and the Mediterranean Non-Member States. The Site contains general information about the Foundation, an explanation of its tendering procedure, information on its programs and the VET situation in the respective countries, as well as useful download section where many of its documents can be found, e.g. a Glossary on Labour Market Terms and Standard and Curriculum Development Terms providing definitions and explanations in English, and equivalent terms in German, French, and Russian. The glossary is cross-referenced.

EVTA - European Vocational Training Association

The European Vocational Training Association supports its members in challenges of growth, competitiveness and social cohesion in the field of Life-Long Learning. Its secretariat is situated in Brussels and works on behalf of 18 national training institutions, 2000 training centres, 50'000 trainers and 1 million trainees per year.

ILO - Cinterfor (Inter-American Research and Documentation Centre on Vocational Education)

CINTERFOR (Centro Interamericano de Investigación y Documentación sobre Formación Profesional) is a technical unit of the International Labour Organization (ILO), with headquarters in Montevideo since its creation in 1963. It acts as the coordinating nucleus of a system composed of vocational training institutions and entities of the ILO Member States from America and Spain. The Technical Committee of Cinterfor encourages and promotes the development of human resource training institutions, by means of the exchange of experiences among them, based on studies and research investigations, information and documentation, as well as the transfer of methodologies and vocational training technologies. With a group of experts Cinterfor counts on different vocational training areas, and has available a network of specialists for the realization of specific studies and projects. Cinterfor has been supported by SDC, in particular for several translation services.

ILO - International Training Centre, Turin

The Turin Centre designs and delivers training programmes for decision-makers, managers and practitioners from ILO member States in the areas of employment, labour rights, social protection and development management.

IVETA - International Vocational Education and Training Association

IVETA is an organisation and network of vocational educators, vocational skills training organisations, business and industrial firms, and other individuals and groups interested or involved in VET worldwide. IVETA is working to create a new era in communication among vocational educators around the globe. Members include practitioners, researchers, and students in the field of VET as well as institutions, organisations, and companies actively engaged in human resource development.
IVETA is an official affiliate of the American Vocational Association, and also holds international conferences throughout the world; IVETA's secretariat can be contacted in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, USA

NCVER - National Centre for Vocational Education Research (Australia)

NCVER collects and analyses national VET statistics and survey data, undertakes a strategic program of VET research and development, communicates the outcomes of its research and data analysis to policy-makers and practitioners, collects and makes available VET research findings from Australian and international sources through the VOCED database, undertakes commercial consultancies, and builds links with similar international organisations to foster comparative analysis and collaborate on issues of mutual interest.
VOCED - the international​ TVET database for research is a bibliographic database of over 21 000 abstracts, produced in Australia and endorsed by UNESCO. The database contains information from all over the world, covering issues of TVET research, policy and practice. There are entries for journal articles, reports, conference papers, electronic documents etc.

NORRAG

is a network of persons and associate members based in universities, research centres, development agencies, and NGOs committed to improving interactions amongst research, policy, and practice in the "North" as a means of supporting education and training in the "South".

RECOUP - Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty

RECOUP is a research partnership of seven institutions in the UK, Africa and South Asia funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and led by the University of Cambridge. Its research is examining the impact of education on the lives and livelihoods of people in developing countries, particularly those living in poorer areas and from poorer households. Its purpose is to generate new knowledge that will improve education and poverty reduction strategies in developing countries, through an enhanced recognition of education's actual and potential role. It explicitly deals with Skills Aquisition and Public Private Partnerships in Education.

SEE-ECN - South East European Educational Cooperation Network

Aims at supporting the exchange of information, ideas, and know-how between grass roots initiatives / NGOs, regional educational policy makers and European and International Institutions for the reform and quality improvement of education in 11 countries in SEE. Jointly run by KulturKontakt Austria and Centre for Educational Policy Studies (CEPS) and supported by the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Open Society, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Republic of Slovenia, Ministry of Education Science and Sport, University of Ljubljana in the context of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.

UNESCO-IIEP - International Institute for Educational Planning

The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning is committed to capacity building in educational policy making, planning and management. It achieves this largely through the training of educational planners and administrators and providing support to national training and research institutions, mainly in developing countries.

UNESCO-UNEVOC - International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education

The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training was established in September 2000. It is dedicated to developing and improving technical and vocational education and training in UNESCO's Member States. Its focus is on information exchange, networking and international cooperation. The Centre is located in Bonn, Germany.
The website presents information on the Centre's programmes and activities, the UNEVOC Network, the UNESCO-UNEVOC Bulletin and its other publications (most of them in full text), relevant conventions and recommendations of UNESCO, and on forthcoming events.

WorldSkills - International Vocational Training Organisation (IVTO)

Gives information on the framework only, not on individual qualifications.

City & Guilds

City & Guilds is the leading provider of vocational qualifications in the United Kingdom. Their qualifications assess skills that are of practical value in the work place. They are recognised for their quality and are valued by employers in every sector of business. There are over 500 qualifications to choose, related to work or preparing for work, to colleges or to a training provider. They are also offering training and qualifications to develop a skilled workforce for employers.

European Qualifications Framework (EQF)

Since 2003, European policy makers have repeatedly called for the development and implementation of a European Qualifications Framework (EQF) strengthening the links between frameworks at national and sectoral level and thus supporting lifelong learning. The development of EQF as a contribution towards the Lisbon strategy has priority within the implementation of the Education and Training 2010 work programme of the EU. And also in the Maastricht Communiqué of Dec. 14th, 2004, the 32 European Ministers responsible for Vocational Education and Training in their countries agreed to give priority to the development of an open and flexible EQF providing a common reference to facilitate the recognition and transferability of qualifications covering both VET and general (secondary and higher) education.

Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is one of the most experienced and largest development organisations in Switzerland. Institute for International Cooperation in Education IZB

IZB belongs to the University of Teacher Education in Central Switzerland, PHZ. IZB is active in the fields of research and development, development cooperation, mobility and teaching. The expertise of the IZB lies principally in the area of pre-school and primary school education, lower and upper secondary school levels, basic and continuous teacher training, design and implementation of curricula, school networks as well as educational resource centres.
