The Center of Microfinance of the University of Zurich, in collaboration and with the support of SDC and HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, is organizing different courses:

Microfinance- Introduction

This course is designed for all those who are interested in investments or funding for microfinance institutions and financial sector development. The target audience includes social microfinance investors, asset and portfolio managers with a focus on socially responsible investments, staff of development agencies and NGOs-family offices, and consultants. Participants have a graduate degree and several years of working experience.

Microfinance - State of the Art

Building on the course Microfinance ‒ Introduction, this seminar conveys the skills necessary for analyzing investment opportunities and understanding investment strategies, risk mitigation, and new developments in investments in financial inclusion. This course is designed for all those who are interested in investments in or funding for microfinance institutions and financial sector development. The target audience includes social microfinance investors, asset and portfolio managers with a focus on socially responsible investments, staff of development agencies and NGOs-family offices, and consultants.

Microinsurance - Insurance for Development

This two-day seminar enables participants to gain a basic understanding of microinsurance and learn in particular about key aspects and key challenges of providing insurance services in emerging and developing economies. The course is designed for organizations that support the development of microinsurance. The target audience includes people who are considering establishing microinsurance schemes, staff of microinsurance companies, established insurance companies that are considering entering the microinsurance market, regulators, policy makers and those working in financial inclusion.

Socially Responsible Investments (SRIs)

Two-day Course on Socially Responsible Investments, the course is held in German. Die Teilnehmenden machen sich mit den Konzepten der Nachhaltigkeit und mit der Vielfalt der Fachbegriffe in der modernen Welt der «socially responsible investments» vertraut. Sie verfügen nach dem Kurs über ein vertieftes Verständnis über den internationalen SRI-Markt und dessen Akteure und sind in der Lage unterschiedliche SRI-Anlegerprofile zu identifizieren und deren Anlageentscheidungsprozesse zu analysieren. Die Teilnehmenden verfügen über sondierte SRI-Kenntnisse bezüglich Themen- und Anlagestrategien und verstehen die SRI-gestützte Vermögensverwaltung hinsichtlich Produktanalyse und -auswahl. Sie erhalten einen Einblick in die SRI-Risikoanalyse und deren Performance-Messung. Der Kurs vermittelt damit ein Spezialwissen zur Stärkung der SRI-Beratungs- sowie Entscheidungskompetenz.

The Social Finance Academy – with the University of Zurich Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth (CSP) and Convergence ran an executive program "Impact Investment & Blended Finance for Development Agencies & Foundations" for the first-time in 2018, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Based on excellent feedback by participants, the program is now offered permanently. It is targeted at develop­ment agencies, public or multi­lateral organizations as well as foundations with a focus on international development.

Impact Investment & Blended Finance for Development Agencies & Foundations

The program is available in 2- or 3-day versions and different regions
