This series of case studies illustrates examples from the Financial Sector Development portfolio of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The series was initiated and funded by SDC in the framework of the United Nations’ Year of Microfinance 2005. Case studies number one to seven were elaborated under the guidance of Intercooperation in 2007 by students from Swiss Universities who did a three months internship in a microfinance institution or a financial sector project supported by SDC. The students used this chance to do research for their master’s thesis. The remaining case studies were elaborated by financial sector specialists closely related to the presented institutions and projects.
