Development Policy Dialogue with the EU

arbThe EU is a key player in development cooperation because of the considerable resources it deploys, its significance as the world's largest trading bloc and its political initiatives. The EU and its 28 member states together account for over half of all Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided around the world.

As the largest donor worldwide, the EU and its member states play a pivotal role in international cooperation – especially in terms of development policy issues. The EC and its Directorates-General (DGs) are a source of highly competent policy analysis, which is immediately relevant and useful for SDC’s own development policy making.

On behalf of SDC, the Analysis and Policy Division promotes a continuous dialogue with relevant EC institutions. In this context, the Division closely collaborates with a Brussels-based Think-and-Do-Tank (European Centre for Development Policy Management - ECDPM)
