Health Reference Indicators

SDC is applying Aggregated Reference Indicators (ARIs) and Thematic Reference Indicators (TRIs) to better report and communicate overall results and against Switzerland's International Cooperation Strategies (2017-2021; 2021-2024).

The updated list of ARIs and TRIs proposes a menu of indicators based on SDC thematic approaches. They reflect good international practice and SDC's experience. SDC operational units should select at least 50% of health indicators from that list.

When preparing a project, cooperation or global programme, do review the list carefully, taking into consideration each sub-objective of the Dispatch, theme or SDG target which is either included or touches upon the results aimed at. It is important to examine the whole list as several ARIs and TRIs address transversal themes or are linked more than one sub-objective of the Dispatch or more than one SDG target. ARIs and TRIs are to be included in all result frameworks coming into effect and should be selected if they are relevant and make sense in the concerned situation. All ARIs/TRIs are therefore listed here.

For health specific interventions, the following 2 ARIS and 5 TRIs are reference indicators. For more details have a look at the factsheet (concrete guidance and definition):

Moreover, you are invited to consider indicators under other thematic priorities.

Here below are some examples:

  • Healthy diets (Agriculture and Food Security)

  • Local community involvement in water and sanitation management (Water)

  • Improved awareness and capacities on climate change (Climate change)

  • Women's Economic Empowerment (Inclusive economic development)
