Inclusion of specific groups

Gender-based exclusion: is universally recognized as an important dimension along which social exclusion takes place. Gender equality is a cross cutting theme of SDC, see SDC gender equality shareweb

Roma inclusion: SDC is promoting Roma inclusion through projects in Western Balkans and Central Eastern Europe (New EU member states). In each country, SDC officers are in charge of the quality and follow up of these projects, in close collaboration with national authorities (policy dialogue). Since 2012 Regional Workshops on Roma Social Inclusion are organized in order to allow SDC staff managing these programs to exchange their experiences, learn from each other and improve the quality of design and steering of their programs. The first seminar in Belgrade (2012) was a general stocktaking, the second in Bucharest (2015) focused on policy dialogue and institutionalisation, the third in Tirana (2016) on existing trade-offs between effectiveness, sustainability and transformation in Roma inclusion support. A fourth Seminar on Roma inclusion is planned to take place in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) in March 2018 and will focus on working through government institutions with a focus on municipalities.

Furthermore, starting at the Bucharest 2015 seminar, so-called learning trajectories gathering interested practitioners in series of virtual meetings (each 1-3 months) on specific topics, allow for exchanges and learning beyond the seminars.

Regional Roma inclusion seminars:

  • Plovdiv (Bulgaria) 2018
  • Tirana (Albania) 2016
  • Bucharest (Romania) 2015
  • Belgrade (Serbia) 2012
